Residential design translates a household's daily routine into space. A good home works correctly before it looks good: the bathroom does not jam during the morning rush, a child in the living room stays visible from the kitchen, and private areas stay private when guests arrive.
The first decision is the layout plan, and it governs everything that follows: the position of wet areas, the relationship between kitchen and living room, the distance of bedrooms from noise sources, and the distribution of storage. Furniture and colour come afterwards.
Storage is the most underestimated item in residential projects. Custom joinery yields noticeably more capacity than ready-made furniture within the same volume, because it uses column recesses, niches and the gap up to the ceiling. Dressing rooms, seasonal storage and a cleaning cupboard must be allocated at plan stage.
Light is the most effective tool for enlarging a home. Layered lighting — ambient, task and accent — divides the plan into zones and creates depth. An open plan lets daylight reach deeper, but odour and sound control then have to be planned separately.
In material selection, consistency matters more than variety. Running the same floor finish uninterrupted through the home widens it visually. Porcelain tile in wet areas and natural stone or solid timber in living areas are common, durable choices.
Acoustics are usually noticed too late. Insulation on wet-area walls, additional insulation in rooms adjacent to shaft lines and under-screed insulation directly affect night-time comfort. These items belong to the shell stage; adding them later means opening floors and walls.
Mechanical decisions must be taken together with the design. If a bathroom or kitchen is to be relocated, drainage falls and shaft positions have to be checked at the outset. Where underfloor heating is used, floor finishes and furniture layout are set accordingly.

How do apartment, villa and residence projects differ?
Apartment work is mainly about recovering usable area within a fixed shell — corridors, storage and wet-area constraints. Villa work is driven by the floor strategy, stair position and the indoor-outdoor relationship across a much larger footprint. Residence work concentrates on adding storage to a standard delivered plan, protecting the view line and controlling equipment and services noise.
Do you also work on existing homes rather than new builds?
Yes. Renovation of older or occupied apartments and houses is a regular part of our work in Ankara. The starting point differs: existing drainage lines, shaft positions, load-bearing elements, ceiling heights and electrical capacity are surveyed first, and the design is then developed within what the building actually allows rather than around an idealised plan.
