Coffee 1919 Bilkent — a café interior design project completed by Ruler Interior Design in Ankara. Post-completion project gallery.
Coffee 1919 Bilkent is a coffee venue in the Bilkent area of Ankara; its interior design and fit-out were carried out by Ruler Interior Design. The gallery on this page shows photographs of the finished branch — you can review the atmosphere, material textures and seating layout of the space through these frames.
A coffee brand's branch identity begins with the atmosphere a guest feels the moment they walk in. In the Coffee 1919 Bilkent project our approach was to carry the brand's character into the space while creating an environment that suits heavy daily use, allows easy circulation and stays visually memorable. The lighting scheme, material selection and distribution of seating areas were planned for both quick-service guests and those who want to sit for longer.
Bilkent is an area where university, office and retail density come together and coffee culture is strong. In such a location, standing out depends not only on product quality but also on the first impression the space creates. In venues of this scale, three design priorities come to the fore:
The colour palette, texture and lighting are brought together to reflect the brand's tone. The aim is for the guest to recognise the brand as soon as they see the space and to feel at ease.
The order queue, service line and seating areas are planned so they do not obstruct one another. In a busy area, smooth circulation is decisive for both guest comfort and operational efficiency.
In a heavily used café, the flooring, counter and furniture materials are chosen to be easy to clean and long-lasting, so the space keeps its original appearance for a long time.
In a venue like this, design decisions are not limited to aesthetics; light, sound, material and operational flow are handled as a whole. Below we summarise the main decisions that directly shape the result in a café interior.
Lighting is the most powerful tool that defines a café's character through the day. A multi-scenario scheme that supports daylight during the day and offers a warm, relaxing layer in the evening directly affects how long a guest stays and their overall satisfaction. The counter, display and seating areas are separated from one another with different lighting intensities.
Acoustic comfort is another layer that is often overlooked yet shapes the guest experience. In spaces dominated by hard surfaces, surface and material choices that reduce echo create an environment where conversation can continue comfortably. In material selection, both the brand's aesthetic language and the maintenance needs of heavy use are considered together; the right material determines how quickly the space wears over the years.
